Break the Chains
A couple posts back we showed you the T-Shirts for CFI’s Break the Chains benefit concert. The design started out as a poster and was later adapted for use on shirts, a microsite and a short motion graphics piece. The preliminary comp was the grayscale illustration you see above to the left. Even in the early stages we knew the poster was going to come together nicely. The dynamic use of negative space simplified the design while adding a layer of sophistication to the poster. We initially thought the type could work inside the hands. But after trying a layout with the text beneath the illustration, it was clear that the overlaying text was detracting from the image. One of the last typographic details we adjusted was enlarging the date so it would read well on first glance.
